Donald Sullivan Jr., owner of Sullivan Auto Trading in Fredericksburg, Virginia, was honored as the 2024 National Quality Dealer of the Year by the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA). The award was presented during the NIADA Convention and Expo at the Wynn Las Vegas, where Sullivan was selected from among 11 finalists. In his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude to his family, staff, and faith, emphasizing the collective effort behind his success.
The National Quality Dealer Award, established in 1976, recognizes independent dealers who demonstrate excellence in the automotive industry, outstanding customer service, and community involvement. Nominees are evaluated based on their contributions to the industry, ethical business practices, and reputation within their communities.
Sullivan's dealership operates two locations in Fredericksburg and Norfolk, selling approximately 150 vehicles monthly from a 300-vehicle inventory. His leadership extends beyond his business; he serves as the president of the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association and has developed educational curricula for the state's automotive academy. Proceeds from these educational initiatives support a nonprofit organization he founded, aiding children who are abused, trafficked, abandoned, homeless, or disadvantaged.
Community service is a cornerstone of Sullivan's philosophy. He is actively involved in his church as a board member and trustee and contributes to youth development by coaching sports. His dealership hosts events like Single Parent Saturday, providing free oil changes and vehicle detailing to over 100 single parents, along with activities for their children.
Reflecting on his achievement, Sullivan attributed his success to divine grace and the support of his community. He stated, "My name will be written down in the NIADA history books but that is only because of God’s grace and unmerited favor that he has on my life."
